Podcast snippets on Instagram are short, engaging clips from your podcast episodes that you share to increase visibility and attract new listeners.
These bite-sized pieces showcase your expertise while enticing viewers to check out your full episode, and by strategically sharing these snippets on Instagram, you can tap into the platform’s massive user base to grow your podcast audience—all while using the podcast content you’ve already recorded.
Why You Should Use Instagram for Your Podcast
You don’t necessarily need to create a separate Instagram account just for your podcast. It’s based on your overall marketing goals and how your podcast fits into your business (or if your podcast IS your business).
But just because you don’t have a dedicated account for your podcast doesn’t mean you can’t market or promote your episodes on your regular business Instagram account. Marketing your podcast on Instagram is a great way to reach new audiences, especially through short-form videos.
Instagram helps you connect with people who might not discover your podcast through traditional podcast directories like Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Short-form video content is one of your best tools for visibility, even if you’re more comfortable behind the mic than in front of a camera (this is one of the reasons I love video podcasting).
How to Post Podcast Snippets on Instagram
Creating and posting podcast snippets doesn’t have to be complicated. With the right strategy and tools, you can turn your episodes into engaging Instagram content without spending hours on editing or finding those mic-drop moments.
I recommend finding tools to make this process easier, or if you’d rather avoid dealing with it at all, and find a podcast repurposing agency (like us) to take it off your hands!
Either way, this is how you can post podcast snippets to Instagram and increase your podcast’s visibility:
Step #1: Identify Your Clip
The key to a great podcast snippet is finding the right moment in your episode. You want something that’s catchy and stands out on its own, but also tempts listeners to hear more.
Look for those “mic drop” moments—the one-liners viewers can’t help but share, moments that shift perspective, or relatable content that resonates with your dream clients.
Keep your clips between 30-60 seconds—just enough time to deliver value without losing your viewer’s attention in the Instagram doom-scroll. Or choose a really short clip (10 seconds or less) to capture someone’s attention quickly and leave them wanting more!
Step #2: Use Descript to Create a Snippet
Descript is my go-to tool for creating podcast snippets. It’s perfect because it lets you edit your audio/video while seeing your transcript at the same time.
When I’m editing in Descript, I always mark those standout moments as I go. This makes it super easy to come back later and turn them into Instagram-ready snippets. Plus, with the new updates, you can auto-generate a snippet with text overlay, too.
Here’s how simple it is:
- Import your podcast episode (or record in app)
- Find your chosen clip in the transcript
- Cut just that section
- Add text overlays from your transcript
- Export it in the right format for Instagram
The text overlay is a must—it helps people understand your content even if they’re scrolling with the sound off (which most Instagram users do!).
Step #3: Create Your Post
Now it’s time to share your snippet! You can publish it as a story or a reel, or even better—do both!
A reel might be your best bet for a recent episode since people can easily find the link in your bio. Use stories when you want to highlight an older episode that needs a direct link with the link sticker.
When writing your caption, keep it short and sweet. Give a little context about what they’ll learn in the full episode, and add a clear call to action like “Listen to the full episode—link in bio!” Use a pod.link to let listeners pick their favorite platform to tune in, lowering the barrier of entry into your world!
Strategically Repurposing Your Episodes to Grow Your Podcast
Instagram snippets are just the beginning of what you can do with your podcast content. Repurposing lets you maintain consistent messaging across platforms while saving you time on content creation.
Instead of creating brand-new content for every platform, you’re taking the amazing podcast content you’ve already made and transforming it to fit different spaces. This means more visibility and reach without the extra work of starting from scratch.
You can absolutely DIY your podcast repurposing, but if you’re like most business owners, time is your most precious resource. That’s where working with a podcast repurposing agency comes in handy—we handle the technical stuff while you focus on creating amazing episodes.
