The content you create on your podcast has a huge impact on your listeners — it gives them an idea of who you are, what you do, and how you can help them. To say planning your podcast episodes is important feels like an understatement simply because of how much visibility and engagement it fosters.
But, often, there’s a pressure that comes with planning out your podcast episodes and picking your podcast topics — and luckily, I’m here to share some podcast topics you can use as a business owner in any industry that will help your listeners interact with your brand.
What To Talk About on Your Podcast: Content Topics to Inspire Your Best Episodes
Once you start with these five essential podcast topics and record your episodes, more topics will start to pop up, and you’ll think, “That would be an AMAZING episode.”
What I’m trying to share is that coming up with topics won’t feel “hard” forever. One day, your main struggle will be editing recording after recording and wondering when it’ll end (but we can help with that, too).
But just because it won’t feel hard forever doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put in the effort now. There’s so much valuable information you have to share — you just need a touch of inspiration to help you share it.
On that note, here are the five podcast episode topics that you can use to inspire your best episodes as a business owner in ANY industry:
#1. Your Services
Your services should be the first place you look for episode ideas and use them as your first podcast topic. This doesn’t mean you should create “Why to Hire” or “What is” episodes for every service you offer.
Rather, look at the processes involved in serving your clients (or customers) and the results you give. Focus on the transformations you provide and how you help your clients achieve their goals.
#2. Common FAQs
My favorite place to find easy podcast topics is asking your audience! You can make episodes addressing and bringing attention to the most common questions you get from your clients, community, or followers.
If you don’t have any questions on hand, you can head to Instagram or Threads and ask your audience to “ask you anything” about your expertise or offers. This method might be difficult if you’re launching a new podcast with no audience, but in that situation you should research common FAQs that people are asking others in your industry.
#3. Pain Points
When you choose your services and the community you serve, it’s important to understand WHY your audience needs your offers. To do so, you need to have a good understanding of their pain points.
Write down all their pain points and how your offers help relieve them, then brainstorm podcast topics based on your notes. As a quick tip, I recommend adding a personal anecdote or story to help encourage your listeners to really connect with you and take action in addition to listening.
#4. How-To’s
If you’re brainstorming podcast episode ideas and topics, you’ve probably considered recording some type of “how-to.” The “how-to” episode is a traditional edition of any content plan on nearly any platform — mostly because it’s a chance to do more than sell and nurture; rather, you’re educating your audience.
With how-to episodes, you want to cover the basics of what anyone interested in your service or industry needs to know. For example, as a podcast manager, my “how-to” episodes might look like this:
- How to Start a Podcast
- How to Record a Podcast
- How to Plan Your Podcast Episodes
“How-to” episodes tend to build on each other, meaning that once you record one “how-to,” you’ll get inspired to record more!
#5. Your Favorite Tips
When in doubt, fall back on your favorite tips! Tips and tricks are a great way to build trust with your listeners and get them to take action. Once they apply your tips to their own workflow or business (and get the results you shared), they’ll trust you with their bigger tasks and projects.
But don’t go overboard with your tips. Too much information can be overwhelming, so keep it to 3-5 niched tips that address a specific problem or situation.
How to Pick The Topic of Your Next Podcast Episode
Before you do anything, you need to write (or type) out all of your pre-existing episodes (if you have any). This will help you know exactly what you’ve already created a podcast episode on — and let you see what you haven’t.
Next, start with something you feel good about, and you KNOW your audience will love. When you record an episode about a topic you’re passionate about, you feel good, and when you feel good, you’re excited about recording the next episode.
And when you’re picking the topic of your next podcast episode, plan out the next 5-10 episodes, too. That way, you’ll only need to worry about actually recording and not what you’re going to talk about.
