Creating reels (or really, any short-form video content) as a podcaster can be exhausting and daunting — as someone more comfortable behind the mic, lip-syncing, dancing, or keeping up with the latest trends just isn’t something you love to do (or maybe it is, but you’re burnt out doing it).
One of my favorite things to do as a podcast repurposing agency is helping podcasters get more out of the content they love creating — which is exactly why I wanted to share some of my favorite Instagram reel ideas for podcasters (that hopefully make content creation a little bit easier).
How to Show Up on Instagram as a Podcaster Without Doing More Work
The whole point of showing up on Instagram (and creating content you don’t necessarily love to create) is visibility. Visibility is the driving force behind getting more listeners to your podcast, attracting more leads, and converting more clients.
Whether we like it or not, Instagram reels are one of the best ways to increase your visibility to an unknown audience — meaning they’re a useful tool for both an established and brand-new podcast.
These reel ideas are meant to make content ideation easier, taking the mental load off your shoulders so you can focus on creating. I recommend recording a few B-roll clips to pair with these ideas to make it even easier.
5 Instagram Reels Ideas for Podcasters to Use Right Now
So you’re officially ready to start planning and prepping your reels — now let’s break down the ideas!
#1. Audiogram
An audiogram is a short clip from your podcast that is created by adding an image or background with your audio clip and a waveform generator. Audiograms are a classic video idea for podcasters (which makes it perfect to kick off our list).
The best audiograms are clips that highlight the main idea of your episode or are intriguing enough to spark a conversation in the comments or quickly catch someone’s attention.
#2. B-Roll with Podcast Audio Clip
Perhaps my favorite, the next Instagram reel idea is to use a podcast audio clip with text overlay with a b-roll video! This is pretty self-explanatory, but it follows the same idea as an audiogram (capturing audio clips that are engaging or spark interest) but with a video background instead of the static image and waveform combination.
#3. Top Tips
Another good idea is to record a “talking head” reel (essentially a short video where you speak to the camera) that highlights the top tips from your podcast episode. While you’re not technically clipping your podcast, you are repurposing your content which lets you skip ideation (as you’re just taking the information from your already recorded podcast).
#4. Video Podcast
A video podcast is when you automatically record video with your podcast audio — which can be clipped and repurposed on your Instagram account as reels. This makes it a little easier to find significant moments and even provides a more personal approach to your content.
I know this may seem like a lot at first (I mean, the reason you started a podcast was to not have to get camera-ready, right?). But, if you can commit to creating a video once a month, you will have more content to repurpose in the long term.
#5. Interview Collab Post
Choose one of the other four ideas and invite your guest speakers to collaborate with you on Instagram. Collaborating increases your visibility and reach as you’ll be shown to their followers and yours! Plus, working with someone can help reduce the stress around creating content, as you’ll be sharing the burden with each other!
How to Get More Visibility with Your Podcast
Although a podcast can grow on its own thanks to Podcast SEO, you have to put in the effort to show up on different platforms to get the most visibility. As more people find your show, listen to your episodes, and leave positive reviews, you’ll continue to create a community of raving fans that turn in new leads who are excited to learn more about your courses and service(s), and new clients waiting to sign up for your next offer.
