How to Use Pinterest for Your Podcast | Lynelle Lillian

When you think of promoting your podcast, Pinterest might not be the first platform that comes to mind. But if you’re overlooking it, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity!

Pinterest isn’t just for recipes and DIY projects — it’s a search engine disguised as a social platform, and it can drive serious traffic to your podcast. Whether you’re just starting your show or looking to grow your existing audience, Pinterest can help you get your episodes in front of new listeners (and leads).

Here’s how you can use Pinterest to promote your podcast and reach a wider audience.

Why Pinterest Works for Your Podcasts

Pinterest works like a visual search engine, meaning it can help more people discover your podcast — especially if your episodes cover topics people are actively searching for. Think about it: When someone types in “best productivity tips” or “how to start a side hustle,” wouldn’t it be great if one of your podcast episodes popped up? That’s where Pinterest comes in.

Pins last longer than social media posts on platforms like Instagram or Facebook. If you create eye-catching, searchable content, your pins can drive traffic to your podcast for months (even years) after posting.

How to Use Pinterest for Your Podcast

Pinterest is a search engine, so while a pin can last almost forever, it does take some strategy (and time) to show up in search results. Still, it’s one of my favorite marketing tools and platforms for podcasters!

Here’s how to use Pinterest for your podcast:

Step # 1: Create Pins for Each Episode

The first step to promoting your podcast on Pinterest is creating unique pins for each episode. Think of each pin as a mini advertisement for your episode. You want it to be visually appealing, easy to read, and make people curious enough to click through to your podcast.

Here are some quick tips for creating engaging pins:

  • Use bold, clear text that highlights the episode title or key takeaway.
  • Choose an image that relates to the topic or showcases your podcast branding.
  • Add your podcast logo or website URL to reinforce your brand.

Tools like Canva make it easy to design Pinterest graphics, even if you’re not a pro. Aim for vertical pins, as these perform best on Pinterest — your ideal pin size is 1000 x 1500 pixels.

Step #2: Write Searchable Pin Descriptions

Pinterest is a search engine, so the text you use in your pin descriptions matters. You want to make sure you’re using keywords that your audience is likely searching for. Think about the main topics of your podcast episode — what problem are you solving, or what information are you providing? Include those keywords in your pin descriptions.

Bonus: Use Pinterest search and trends (available for Pinterest Business Accounts, which you should have) to find the perfect keywords for your pins!

For example, if your podcast episode is about “how to start a podcast,” your pin description might include keywords like:

“Learn how to start a podcast”

“Tips for launching your first podcast”

“Podcasting for beginners”

Step #3: Create Boards That Match Your Podcast Topics

To keep things organized (and to help your content get found), create Pinterest boards around the main topics you cover on your podcast. For example, if your podcast is all about business, you might have boards like “Business Tips,” “Entrepreneurship,” or “Marketing Strategies.”

Pin your episode graphics to these boards so that when someone browses a relevant topic, they’ll see your podcast pins alongside other helpful resources.

You can also create a dedicated board for your podcast. For example, a board called “Episodes of [Your Podcast Name]” can house every episode pin, making it easy for followers to explore your content in one place.

Step #4: Repurpose Podcast Content into Pinterest-Friendly Formats

Think about all the great content you share in your podcast — tips, how-tos, advice. Now, repurpose that content into blog posts, infographics, or step-by-step guides that you can promote on Pinterest.

For example, if you did an episode on “How to Build a Personal Brand,” you could create an infographic breaking down the steps, then link it back to your podcast episode for more details. This gives Pinterest users even more value while leading them straight to your show.

Step #5: Be Consistent and Engage

Just like with any platform, consistency is key on Pinterest. Regularly add new pins for each podcast episode. The more active you are, the more likely your pins will be seen by others.

Pinterest also loves engagement, so spend a little time each week responding to comments if you have any and making sure your boards, profile, and pins are up-to-date. The more engaged you are, the more Pinterest will push your content to the top of search results.

Step #6: Track Your Analytics

Lastly, keep an eye on your Pinterest analytics to see which pins are driving the most traffic to your podcast. Pinterest’s built-in analytics can show you which pins are performing well and what your audience is searching for, helping you tweak your strategy as needed.

Ready to Pin Your Podcast?

Pinterest might not be the first platform you think of when it comes to promoting your podcast, but it can be a powerful tool for growing your audience. By creating compelling pins, optimizing your descriptions, and staying consistent, you can drive traffic to your podcast for the long haul. So, start creating those pins and get ready to see your listener numbers climb!
